Partnerships

NORTH ISLAND COLLEGE (NIC)
Continuing Education works closely with the Academic Advisors at the Campbell River Campus of NIC to coordinate the transition of students between our institutions. Continuing Education math staff have developed a chart of required skills for people wanting to upgrade to enter a particular trade. Using this chart, staff can develop an individualized program of upgrading so the student meets exactly the topics they need for their chosen trade.

CREFS
Continuing Education has a formal partnership agreement with CREFS (Campbell River Employment Foundations Society). The partnership includes an agreement to have Continuing Education staff review a portfolio of work created by a participant in the Job Project who wishes to earn a Grade 12 course credit. If the portfolio meets the required standard, the student will be granted credit for Career and Personal Planning for Adults (CAPPA 12). This counts as a Grade 12 elective in the five course Adult Graduation Diploma requirement.

DISCOVERY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Students who complete particular courses at Discovery Community College may earn Grade 12 credit through Continuing Education. The particular courses and programs eligible for credit change from time to time but may include courses in Accounting, Business Writing, and Entrepreneurhip. Check with Continuing Education for up-to-date details.

ROTARY CLUBSRotary International
Continuing Education is working with the two local Rotary Clubs to build a partnership with our Adult Literacy Program. Rotary International has identified Literacy as a focus for this time. Volunteers are working towards establishing a non-profit society to be eligible to receive Bingo funds. We are hoping to have the pieces in place by Fall 2000.

LAICHWILTACH FAMILY LIFE SOCIETY

Continuing Education and Laichwiltach Family Life have jointly applied for funding through the Cost Shared Literacy Proposal process. We are looking for the opportunity to provide basic literacy skills training to adults attending other programs at Laichwiltach. This training would focus on improving the adults' own skills while increasing their confidence in reading to children in their lives. Laichwiltach Family Life Society serves mainly off-reserve First Nations people living in the Campbell River area.

NORTH ISLAND DISTANCE EDUCATION SCHOOL (NIDES)
Continuing Education has an agreement with NIDES to invigilate distance education course exams. NIDES students living within School District #72 come to the Continuing Education Centre to write their exams. To make an appointment to write an exam call 286-1048. Students enrolled at Continuing Education use NIDES to obtain courses which are not offered through Continuing Education. In addition, students enrolled at NIDES enroll in Continuing Education courses to benefit from face-to-face instruction.
