Career and Personal Planning - Adult (CAPP) 12

Course Description

Career and Personal Planning (Adult) 12 has been developed to assist students in setting goals for their career and personal lives and in creating a plan in which to accomplish these objectives. Students participate in workshops and perform research to learn about themselves and develop skills they will need both in the workforce and future educational pursuits. They will also carry out a thirty-hour work experience.

Students who are not sure of their career goals would benefit from this course as they would research an area of interest and gain experience in their chosen field through a work experience placement

Course Pre-requisites

None. It is recommended that the student be at order #1060 in English 11 or English 12 Prep before beginning the research project.

Course Breakdown

This course consists of the following three parts:
  • Workshops
    • Students will be asked to attend a minimum of 10 workshops from the list. These workshops are scheduled weekly and students are asked to sign up for them as their schedule allows.
  • Research Project
    • Students will be asked to research and write a 800-1000 word essay on the career direction they have chosen. The purpose of this essay is to record how the student made their decision to pursue a particular career direction. The essay will include the following topics:
      • student's interest in this field
      • related skills and aptitudes they possess
      • job prospects
      • training involved and location
      • costs
      • funding supports
  • Work Experience
    • Once all ten workshops have been completed and the research project outline has been approved, the School District will seek to place the student in an appropriate work experience placement.
